Laura and Alan

Laura and I have known each other for 17 years and we’ve had lots of adventures—spending the night on the floor at Honolulu Airport, driving on narrow one-way streets in Florence, Italy, searching for a cheap Parisian hotel during a torrential downpour, usually while drinking a few too many Cosmopolitans along the way. We met in Sun Valley, Idaho, in the summer before our Senior years in college.

Laura and Alan live in Portland, Oregon, and since John and I love the Pacific Northwest, we jumped at the chance to photograph their wedding.

It was a great day, and Laura and Alan were surrounded by friends, family and loved ones. The minister, Mary Sue, was an engaging, appealing officiate. Her kind manner and bright sense of humor made the ceremony a lovely, lighthearted affair. We especially liked the small changes Mary Sue made in the ceremony—for instance, rather than asking “Does anyone object to this marriage…?”, she asked for an affirmation from the congregation. “Do you support the marriage of Laura and Alan? If so, say ‘I do!’ ”

Laura and Alan had their reception in a quintessentially Portland hangout, the Lucky Labrador Brewpub. They also made a special tribue to Alan’s mother, Enid, who passed away last year. It’s clear she was a remarkable woman and is dearly missed.

Laura later wrote me and said “It made my day so special to have you and John with me through it all. I hope you had as much fun as I did!”
