We had a great afternoon photographing recently-engaged couple Elissa and Gary today. Since it’s the holiday season, we decided to take advantage of the festive holiday lights and decorations along Michigan Avenue. We went during the late afternoon to take advantage of the fading sunlight, and took photos up and down the Magnificent Mile.
People and cars were everywhere! I was reminded of the line from ‘Silver Bells’ where “strings of street lights…blink a bright red and green, as the shoppers rush home with their treasures.” Every intersection had a Chicago Police Officer directing traffic and watching out for pedestrians. One Police Officer wondered what we were doing posing for photographs in the median while cars rushed by. We told him that Elissa and Gary had just gotten engaged. He offered his congratulations, told us to be careful with traffic, and went back to blowing his whistle and waving cars through the intersection.
We got some fantastic photos near Water Tower Place at the northern end of Michigan Avenue, where the footpath was decorated with a canopy of white holiday lights. The huge Christmas tree at the John Hancock Building was also a beautiful backdrop.
