We had been working with Jennifer and Dennis as their wedding date grew nearer, discussing the type of photography and album design that best suited them. We developed a great relationship and we felt like a team heading in to the wedding day. It’s wonderful when couples and photographers can develop a close relationship, because it absolutely shows through in the pictures that are taken.
There was a touching moment as the ceremony began: at any family gathering, the absence of family members who are no longer with us resonates with everyone. Dennis and Jennifer chose to remember their family members– his parents and her father– by placing red roses on each of their reserved seats at the beginning of the ceremony. What a touching gesture!
They had a wine-sharing ceremony as a symbol of their union, pouring red wine from a crystal decanter to crystal wineglasses. Their ceremony was heartfelt and they shared devotions that many of us feel but seldom verbalize.
We were fortunate to take some fantastic photos on the curved stairway in the Great Hall, and even in the bar, which was fun and spontaneous. But we think some of the best photos– the ones with the most impact– are the ones taken outside after the ceremony. Against a weathered brick wall, there’s Dennis looking proud in the background. Jennifer stands in the foreground looking into the camera with a soft, knowing smile.
This photograph, we think, distinguishes and celebrates their relationship– it embodies their individuality as well as their togetherness. We’re very pleased with this shot in particular, and we hope you guys are too.
Enjoy your Alaska cruise! Take pictures of the blue icebergs, eat a lot of salmon, and call us when you get back!
