We’re on our way to the Yucatan Peninsula for a week, attending a photo workshop with Monte Zucker and Michele Gauger. Both are accomplished Master Photographers. We’ve been looking forward to this for a whole year!
We’ll be visiting Mayan ruins, jungle, etc. I’m also hoping for boa constrictors, toucans and parrots.
Since I don’t speak the language, John’s speaking perfect rapid-fire Spanish and I’m just pointing and smiling a lot.
We flew United from Chicago to Mexico City, then Aeromexico from Mexico City to Merida. The flights were great and the service fine. But the nicest thing I can say about Mexico City Airport is that at least you can get nachos and a margarita when your flight gets cancelled.
We loved the snacks they served us on Aeromexico: peanuts in a crunchy lime coating. Tart and tangy. And they serve free alcohol onboard. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a beverage cart stacked with liquor bottles clinking down the aisle. Peanuts and free booze. ¡Viva Mexico! Our luggage didn’t make the connection in Mexico City but Aeromexico had them delivered to our hotel room before midnight, so no worries.
It was -7 degrees F in Chicago when we left yesterday, and it’s supposed to be 92 degrees in Merida today. Today we’re driving about an hour north to a place called Telchac, which is on the coast. We’ll be updating this as often as we can find an internet connection!
